Litmus Alternative for Agencies and Freelancers
If you've looked at Litmus and thought "this is clearly not built for me," you're probably right — and that's not a knock on Litmus. It's a genuinely strong product. It's just built for a different buyer than most freelancers and small agencies.
The short version

Where Litmus genuinely wins
To be fair to a product that's earned its reputation: Litmus's rendering previews are best-in-class. Seeing exactly how an email displays across 100+ real inbox and device combinations — including Outlook's notoriously inconsistent rendering and dark mode across clients — is something SendCleared doesn't currently do, and it's a real reason larger in-house teams choose Litmus and stay with it.
If your team needs to catch a rendering bug specific to Outlook 2016 on Windows, Litmus is the tool built for exactly that.
Where it falls short for smaller teams
The gap isn't capability — it's fit.
Pricing scales for a team, not a solo operator. Litmus licenses per seat, with plans historically starting around $500/month for a handful of users. That's a reasonable cost for an in-house team of five running dozens of campaigns a month. It's a hard number to justify for a freelancer managing three clients, or a two-person agency where the volume doesn't come close to using what you're paying for.
Client approval is built for internal review, not external clients. Litmus Proof helps a marketing team collaborate on a draft before it ships. It's not designed around the specific problem agencies and freelancers actually have: getting an external client — someone outside the tool entirely — to review the final version and formally sign off, with a record that holds up later. That's a structurally different workflow, and it shows in how the feature is built.
It's a lot of tool for a single QA-and-approve step. Litmus is a full platform: rendering, analytics, collaboration, deliverability monitoring, competitive intelligence add-ons. If all you actually need is "check this campaign, get my client to approve it," you're paying for — and learning — a lot of surface area you won't touch.
Who should actually use which
Stick with (or move to) Litmus if:
You're an in-house team running high email volume, rendering fidelity across obscure email clients is a recurring problem, and budget isn't the binding constraint.
SendCleared is probably the better fit if:
You're a freelancer or small agency managing a handful of clients, your actual bottleneck is getting a clean, provable client sign-off rather than pixel-perfect Outlook rendering, and you want something that's live in minutes rather than an enterprise onboarding process.
Neither of those is a knock on the other tool — they're built for different jobs.
SendCleared runs an automated QA check — merge tags, broken links, alt text, spam triggers — and replaces the usual "looks good" Slack reply with a branded, timestamped approval link your client can review and sign off on in one click.
